On August 25, 2023, a group of 40 international students from 6 different countries and 5 different universities came together to explore the enchanting realm of Traditional Chinese Culture. The event was coordinated by AoeChinese and iHatoo Chinese Academy. During the event, the participants displayed keen enthusiasm for learning the Chinese language, studying in China, experiencing the charm of traditional Chinese cheongsam attire, engaging in Chinese paper-cut art, taking part in Chinese word passing games, and crafting Mid-Autumn moon cakes.
During the event, Ms. Wang Xiaoyan, the CEO of iHatoo Chinese Academy, gave the opening speech. She talked about the growth journey and the mission of both iHatoo and AoeChinese to the foreign students. Ms. Wang inspired the students to delve into Chinese culture and expressed her aspiration for them to play a pivotal role in future global cultural interactions. She also expressed her wish for the students to develop a passion for learning the Chinese language and embracing Chinese culture.
Afterward, Dr. Farrukh, the overseas project manager at AoeChinese, provided a comprehensive overview of AoeChinese's projects, products, and services. The international students gained a deep understanding of AoeChinese's study-in-China program, HSK training, and Chinese learning services. The foreign students displayed keen interest in learning the Chinese language.
Following the speeches, the event kicked off with the "Word Passing Game." In this game, international students participated by comprehending and passing along 5 sentences. These sentences were:
1. "Wish you prosperity and give me a red packet."
2. "There's paradise above and Suzhou and Hangzhou below."
3. "Heart to heart, @future."
4. "Looking up, I find the bright moonlight; bowing in homesickness, I'm drowned."
5. "Compare West Lake with Xishi, no matter thick or light makeup is always appropriate."
The last two lines of ancient poems posed a challenge, but fortunately, some groups successfully completed them. The team that emerged victorious in the game received an appealing prize.
The session on Chinese traditional cheongsam culture was led by Ms. Wan Tianxiao from Hui Xiaoya Studio. Ms. Wan holds the titles of ACIC International Registered Senior Etiquette Lecturer, ACIC International Registered Cheongsam Aesthetics Senior Lecturer, and ACIC International Registered Body Deportment Aesthetics Senior Lecturer. The focus of Ms. Wan's presentation this time was "Cheongsam: Introducing the World to China's Beauty." She delved into the origins, cultural significance, different types, and proper manners associated with the Chinese cheongsam.
During the session, Ms. Wan and her team of skilled instructors demonstrated various postures, showcasing the elegance and grace of the cheongsam. These mesmerizing gestures and movements captivated the international students in attendance. In fact, some of the foreign students enthusiastically took part in the on-site cheongsam presentation.
Mr. Wang Jieming, recognized heir of Jiande City's intangible cultural heritage (paper-cutting), holds positions such as Honorable Member of Hangzhou Youth Federation, Member of Jiande City Youth Federation, Representative of the Communist Party, and Vice President of Jiande City Paper-cut Association. Paper-cutting, an ancient Chinese folk art spanning over 3,000 years, gained acclaim. In May 2006, it secured a spot in the "First Batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List" by the State Council. Further, on October 10, 2009, UNESCO included it in the esteemed "Representative List of Human Intangible Cultural Heritage."
During the event, Teacher Wang Jieming shared the journey of Chinese paper-cutting's evolution with the international students. He also exhibited ten works centered around the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, leaving the foreign students in awe of the artistry. The students actively engaged, creating their own paper-cut pieces related to the Asian Games. They signed and mounted their creations and took a group photo alongside Mr. Wang Jieming. Expressing their enthusiasm, some international students expressed a desire to visit Mr. Wang's studio in the future, eager to delve further into Chinese paper-cutting culture.
During the concluding Mooncake making session, everyone enthusiastically took part and put in their best effort. Before long, numerous foreign students successfully crafted their own handmade mooncakes. Once sealed and packaged, the gift boxes turned out both exquisite and beautiful.
Finally, all the international students gathered for a group photo with the AoeChinese team. The students conveyed their anticipation for future engaging activities with AoeChinese.
